Semantics really can change the way you look at the world. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a motto. It’s the Teddy Roosevelt quote, “do the best you can, with what you have, where you are.”
It occurs to me of late that maybe this just isn’t good enough anymore. Of course I’ve been inspired by a new sense of accountability in our nation and some recent personal experiences. I see people stepping up and making a difference. So, I’ve decided it’s time for a new motto.
Still working on what it is but it’s inspired by a notion that I can change the world and I can make a difference. (thanks @whitneyhess)
Some candidates:
“Be the change that you want to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi
“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” -Albert Einstein
and I’m especially liking this one:
-“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”-Albert Einstein (again)
It’s important to be aware of all that is changing around us. As a professional developing these experiences, it is absolutely imperative to me. I want to come at it from the right mindset, because there is much work to do.
Another quote I like as it came from the closing plenary Jesse James Garrett gave at the 2009 IA Summit:
“”We shape those tools and then, the experiences that those tools create shape humanity itself. Think about the responsibility that entails. “”
